Neurodivergence and autism, in a few words
Neurodivergence is the name given to ways of brain development and functioning that differ from what is considered typical, such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia. It is part of human diversity and does not define anyone’s worth.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the focus of CEAI’s work, is a neurodevelopmental condition. It affects communication, social interaction and the way a person perceives sounds, lights, textures and routines. Every autistic person has their own profile: that is why we speak of a spectrum.
Care exists to support each child’s development, communication and autonomy, respecting who they are.
Why integrated care makes a difference
A neurodivergent child may need several fields at the same time: speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychology and others. When each appointment happens in a different place, the family spends the week commuting, and it becomes harder for professionals to coordinate their work.
In the integrated model, the specialties share one space and the team works around an individual plan for each child. This is the model CEAI, an INCESC project, uses in Goiânia.

Families at the heart of care
The people who live with the child every day are part of care. Understanding how the child communicates, what overwhelms them and what calms them helps carry what happens in appointments into home life.
CEAI offers psychoeducation for mothers, fathers and caregivers: guidance so the family takes part in the plan and feels less alone along the way. According to STG News (2025), the center also has a coworking space for parents to use during appointments.
Inclusion beyond the clinic
Care is also about community. In July 2023, INCESC held Arraiá Todos Juntos in Goiânia, a June festival focused on inclusion for children, adolescents and young people with disabilities.
